ASIC chairman Tony D'Aloisio's on Inside Business

Inside Business - 11/05/2008: ASIC chief joins Inside Business

Quote:
Next week marks ASIC chairman Tony D'Aloisio's first anniversary as the nation's key corporate regulator.

And it's been quite a year.

It started with the whimpers of Westpoint, Fincorp and Australian Capital Reserve, and concluded with the bangs of Opes Prime, Lift Capital and Chartwell, the common theme being ordinary people losing all of their money.

The anniversary has now also ushered in the biggest overhaul of ASIC's structure since it started a decade ago, with the regulator increasing its supervision of markets and brokers.
