Borders sellout

Not really anything to get excited over, but I kinda like the idea of Borders Aussie stores being bought out by a local company, so that the profits stay here rather than going to the U.S.

Support local retailers!

Didn't the same thing happen to Gloria Jeans?

HiFrank,

I dunno - I've always been under the impression that Gloria Jeans was owned and operated from scratch by Aussies. They did a story on Bread TV (business show that was on a few years ago) about Gloria Jeans and the owners were Australian.

I believe it was American owned, they setup shop over here. It was vastly more successful here and someone bought the business with Australian $$. So the rights to "Gloria Jeans" worldwide is Australian, even though it wasn't started here.

Together they established Jireh International Pty Ltd, the company that holds the right to franchise Gloria Jean's Coffees in Australia, and most recently purchased the rights to the Gloria Jean's Coffees brand for all international countries (with the exception of the USA and Puerto Rico).

Well there ya go! Learn something new everyday. Not that I ever bought coffee there, I always go to Starbucks. Just kidding! Nah, I go to this nifty little place up the road where I get a large for $2.50 and every five I buy I get one free.

Yeah I try to support the local guy, providing he makes a good coffee. I get a similar deal, 1 free after 5 coffees. Costs $3 for a large... I probably should save the money but I just like coffee too much

Hahahaha mate, it's $2.50 a coffee per six coffees, who cares? Penny pinching is for misers and life is too short to hold off on having a nice coffee for morning/afternoon tea.
