Changes to Residential Tenancies Act

The Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) is up for review this year and next and, from my conversations with other REINSW members, it seems that some big changes are on the way. These include more powers to tenants to break fixed leases and shorter termination notices- changes that may well be welcomed by tenants but landlords end up with the short end of the stick.

If you are concerned about any of these changes, make sure you regularly check out any relevant legislation on sites including the Dept of Fair Trading as well as state REI sites. Stay tuned.

What are they talking about?
Tenants can already break a lease on a moment's notice and it's not hard to find an excuse to justify it.

shorter termination notices?
Isn't it already 2 weeks?
What do they want? no notice at all?
