Business Name renaming ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to rename a business trading name (not the Pty Ltd, just the trading Business Name itself) - or does one need to register a new name to trade under and deregister the old one ?

This is in NSW - not sure if it works the same way everywhere.

Sim,
You have to apply for registration of a new trading name, but you do not necessarily have to deregister the old name.It is legal for one corporate entity
to trade under more than one business name if you have a reason to do that.

Thanks Denis.

I don't trade under the business name originally registered. Should I deregister it or just let the registration lapse when it's time to renew ?

If I deregister it - does anyone know what the name of the form I need to fill out is and where I can find it ? I looked all over the NSW Dept of Fair Trading website for that info but couldn't find it.
